Education

I attended Mississippi Delta Community College with a Major in Early Childhood Education. Then, I went to the University of Mississippi with a Major in Musical Theatre. I completed my education at Delta State University majoring in Elementary Education

Experience

I have been a teacher for 19 years, with 15 years of experience in Kindergarten. I have also taught First, Second, and Third grade. During my years of teaching, I have taught in Leland, Greenville, and Tunica.  I absolutely adore teaching Kindergarten!

Bio

My name is Amanda Whittington, but my students call me Ms. W. I am the proud mother of two amazing boys, Aden and Tate.  In addition to my children, I have 2 fur babies, a black lab named Hank, and a cat named Piper. When I am not teaching, I love to watch documentaries and spend time outside with my kids. We love to go to the Farmer's Market! I love camping, kayaking, hiking and music festivals.

I am a native of the Mississippi Delta, originally Clarksdale. I have lived in Cleveland, Leland, and Greenville. We moved to Desoto County in 2013. I attend Desoto Hills Baptist Church, where I am in the Celebration Choir and Praise Team.

I can not wait to teach your child this year!  I hope to work closely with each of my parents to ensure the success of each student in my classroom.

Drills
During the next few weeks, we will conduct safety drills. This is to ensure that each child is safe in case of a real emergency. This is only a drill! After all, practice makes perfect :)

 Promotion to 1st Grade

  • Kindergarten students may read on an independent level C.
  • Kindergarten students must master at least 70% of Math skills on the report card.
  • Kindergarten students must master at least 70% of ELA skills on the report card.

Class Information

Breakfast/ Lunch/ Snack

Breakfast- Is served each day. If you qualify for free/ reduced lunch, you will also qualify for breakfast as well. The cost for breakfast is $1.25 and $.30 for reduced. The start date for breakfast has not been determined.

Lunch- Lunch is $2.75 and $.40 for reduced. Please be sure your child has money on their account. The cafeteria will not charge lunch. If you choose to send a lunch from home.  I ask that you do NOT send any sodas or sugary foods. I strongly encourage water bottles only, especially in the summer months. You can add money to your child’s account by going to www.mypaymentsplus.com and you can also download a smartphone app “My Payments Plus” to add money and monitor your child’s account from your phone.

Free and reduced can also be applied for online: www.schoollunchapp.com  THIS METHOD IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AND IT IS ALSO THE FASTEST. 

Snack- Snack is not provided and must be sent everyday. I ask that you do NOT send any hot chips, candy, pickles, drinks, or sugary items for snack. 

Sending in Money/ Notes

Money is to be labeled with your child’s name, amount, and what it is for. It is to be sent in the front pouch outside of your child’s folder.

Communication

Your child’s folder will be checked each morning when they arrive at school. It is imperative that you also check your child’s folder when they come home everyday. Homework

Homework will be sent home in the beginning of the week and due back on Friday. Your child should be able to complete the homework independently with guidance. Start dates have not been determined. 

Birthdays

Cupcakes are allowed, but they must be store bought.

Change of Clothes

We have numerous bathroom breaks throughout the day, but sometimes in kindergarten, accidents do happen. Put a Ziploc bag labeled with your child’s name and a change of clothes in your child's backpack. This change of clothes will stay in your child’s backpack. Please make sure the clothes are appropriate for the current season. Items to be considered are: underwear, socks, shirt, and pants. If your child ever uses this emergency set of clothes, please replace the contents.
